Free search and research for news articles in Britain during wartime (1850 – 1950). News from the home front and beyond.
How our relatives coped – the stories of everyday life, the ups and downs of Britain at war. Communities bonded together and shattered by events.
Every town and village had a story from events during the Crimean to the Boer wars. The unthinkable during the Great War and the camaraderie and struggle during the Second World War. I can research and supply old news, old news articles, newspaper archives and old newspapers. All the work I do is electronic and digital. The search and research is free. The end result is emailed to you in PDF format.
Basically I identify specific stories and can supply them to you electronically in PDF format by email for a small fee (details here). Your enquiry is without obligation – it is purely a way to find out which articles in connection to your search are available (click here to go straight to the enquiry page).
This website compliments Old British News and is a work being built.
Here is the news …
This website is all about old British news during wartime, during times of conflict (a list is here).
Seemingly small stories, the big stories. Some hidden away since the event more than 100 years ago. Some revealing, a few shocking but all fascinating for the family historian or researcher. There are many little or big snippets of news about your ancestors hidden away in the archives.
News during wartime is not only about the fight in battle but also torment at home through bombing and disruption. Despite the worry of war life had to go on – many news articles paint a picture of regular life – but all reported.
My search and research covers any topic – it’s not all about murder and the nasty stuff. Sometimes there was actually some good news – and even the pleasant events were reported.
The best way to see the past is to look inside the news. I can search British local, national and international news items published in UK national, regional and local newspapers between the 1800′s to the mid 20th century. Even if your story happened in the British Empire there’s a chance it was reported in the British press in the UK. Indeed, like today, major news outside Great Britain was given coverage.
The full use of this website and my growing online viewable data is available free of charge. Initial research enquiries from you is a free service and without obligation to purchase copies of any news articles whatsoever.
Please remember: If you cannot see the item you are looking for on this website please make contact as I am able to trace news items across a broad range of resources.
Your initial enquiry is without obligation. I will advise you which articles are available. I will then await your instructions.
I need some basic brief but crucial detail:
- Names of those you are looking for
- The type of event (a murder, a coroners report, a council story)
- When you thought it was in the news (a year will do)
- Where did it take place?
There is no fee for your initial enquiry and my search for your story is without obligation.
I search for and supply old news articles that were printed and published in Great Britain that generally cover the period 1800 – 1911.
No charge for enquiries. Fast effective service.
There is a charge for electronic copies of articles to cover costs and time. Payments are accepted using the secure PayPal system (most cards accepted). Articles will be emailed to you in PDF format. Details of costs and services here.
